TUNIS - Tourism minister Khelil Lajimi is paying, as of Tuesday, a working visit to Spain, as part of the Tunisian tourism day, held on the fringes of the Zaragoza Universal Exhibition on the keynote " Water and Sustainable Development."

The exhibition has gathered, since last June, 154 countries and attracted nearly three million visitors from all the over the world.

The minister visited Tunisia's stand which extends over a 580-square-metre area and whose fitting out reflects the country's diversity (tourism, handicrafts, water history in Tunisia).

The minister also visited the stands of Spain and those of Maghreb countries. This visit allowed the minister to discuss with officials of these countries bilateral co-operation and means to further strengthen it.

The tourism minister held a news conference during which he made an outline of the Tunisian tourism and prospects for developing it.

On the sidelines of his visit to Spain, Mr. Khelil Lajimi conferred with Messrs. Francesco Frangiali and Taleb Rifai, secretary-general and deputy secretary-general of the World Tourism Organisation, respectively.

The talk examined the international tourist situation and provided the opportunity to evaluate the biennial co-operation programme (2009-2011) signed between Tunisia and the world organisation.

This programme provides notably for a statistics system in the tourism sector, the quality of services, marketing, promotion and electronic marketing.
