TUNIS, Feb. 6, 2010 (TAP)- Tunisia took part in the Euro-Mediterranean Conference on “Transport Infrastructure in the Mediterranean,” held on February 4-5 in the Italian city of Trieste.

The Conference, chaired by Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, was attended by ministers and delegations from European and Mediterranean countries.

In his address, Transport Minister Abderrahim Zouari stressed Tunisia’s interest in the development of Euro-Mediterranean co-operation and the one established between the two shores of the Mediterranean, particularly in the area of transport, given this sector’s role in increasing exchanges and boosting economic and trade partnership.

He reminded of President Ben Ali’s call to draft a co-operation charter between the two Mediterranean shores to make of this sphere a region of peace and co-operation.

The Minister called on the European Community to further back up Maghreb countries’ efforts to ensure integration and development of maritime and land transport channels, as part of Euro-Mediterranean partnership, in order to improve transport infrastructure in the region.
