Fakhir links up with FAR Rabat
Rabat - Moroccan manager Mhamed Fakhir on Thursday signed a one-year contract for the Rabat-based soccer team FAR Rabat, 2007-2008 champion, after the departure of Mustapha Madih who joined Qatari’s club Al-Wakrah.
After the end of his six-month contract with Moghreb Tetouan, Fakhir has regained his former club with which he "maintains good relations", the national manager said Monday at a press conference in Rabat.
"I am very pleased to lead a team like FAR. It is a great team that plays for titles," Fakhir said.
"I have received offers from important Moroccan and foreign clubs. I have chosen FAR because I promised to sign a contract if Madih decides to leave the team," he added, underlining that the team is facing many challenges, but "we should concentrate on the Throne Cup final, slated for July 24."
Before playing this decisive game, the team will participate, on July 15-26, in an international tournament in the cities of Rabat and El-Jadida. “Eight teams are expected in this tournament, namely Etoile Sportive du Sahel (Tunisia), Paços de Ferreira (Portugal), FC Nantes (France), Atlético Bilbao (Spain), Udinese (Italy), Charleroi (Belgium), Moghreb Fes and FAR Rabat (Morocco).”
“Our star is our team,” said Fakhir, underlining that FAR does not depend on one or two famous players, but on group performance.
With FAR, Mhamed Fakhir made a nice career as he led the team to win two Throne Cups (2003 and 2004), a champion title of Morocco in 2005, and a CAF Cup in the same year.
