Moroccan senior delegation hand royal message to UNSG
On this occasion, the delegation handed Ban Ki-moon a written message from King Mohammed VI. The royal message tackles the development of the Moroccan Sahara issue within the UN context.
The Moroccan delegation underlined the momentum created by Morocco's autonomy initiative, which has prompted a new process of negotiations in Manhasset since April 2007.
King's emissaries also recalled that the successive resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (April 2007, October 2007 and April 2008) have been increasingly specific about the objectives, guidelines and terms of negotiation.
The Security Council has called on substantially deepening negotiations on the basis of a sense of compromise and realism, principles upon which the Moroccan initiative was built within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In this regard, the Moroccan delegation reaffirmed the strong commitment of the Kingdom to meet the wishes of the international community in a bid to achieve a final political solution to this regional dispute.
