PJD ready to form alliances with 'deep-rooted' parties, new SG
Rabat - Newly elected Secretary General of the Islamist Justice and Development party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, expressed, here Wednesday, his party's readiness to form alliances with the political parties that are "deep-rooted" in the society.
Speaking at a press conference, the PJD leader underlined that the party has not, so far, concluded any agreement with any party in this respect, stressing that the PJD is ready to cooperate with the parties that "defend the people's interests."
He added that his party is also ready to participate in the government "should the interests of the country and the people so require," underlining the importance of the economic aspect in the party's action and in policy in general. "The issue today is economic not religious," he said.
Benkirane was elected, Sunday as leader of the party with 684 votes, while the outgoing Saad Eddine Othmani was elected, Monday, as president of the party's National Council.
