Al Hoceima - Moroccan customs services in the northern city of Al Hoceima on Monday destroyed by incineration more than one metric ton of drugs in the region of Ketama.

6,982 kg of cannabis, 635 kg of cannabis seeds, 6 kg of cannabis resin (locally known as chira) and 70 kg of tobacco were destroyed during this operation, said a press release of the customs department.

The quantities destroyed were seized during several operations carried out recently by public authorities to combat cannabis culture in the province of the city, the same source said.

The customs are now using a mobile scanner which enabled last December to seize a record quantity of 11 tons of Hashish aboard two TIR trucks in Nador (northeast).

The device has made it possible to thwart many smuggling attempts, the most important of which was three metric tons of cannabis resin seized, in April, by the Moroccan navy in the same city.
