Princess Lalla Salma inaugurates chemotherapy outpatient clinic in Rabat

Rabat - Princess Lalla Salma, spouse of King Mohammed VI and Chairwoman of the "Lalla salma Association Against Cancer" (ALSC) inaugurated, here Monday, a 655,000 USD chemotherapy outpatient clinic at the National Oncology Institute (INO) in Rabat.

    The international standards facility will host 4800 patients a year and includes 6 medical consultation rooms, 16 chemotherapy chairs, 8 beds, and a pharmacy. It will enable to carry out different chemotherapy treatments in the best conditions, reduce the number of complications related to hospitalization, rationalize the use of medicines and reduce health care costs.

    Princess Lala Salma also chaired the signing ceremony of two partnership agreements that provide for training health professionals, prevention, early screening of breast cancer and organizing information and cancer prevention campaigns.

      Recent official figures estimate to some 30,500 new cancer cases every year in Morocco. Global cancer incidence rate among males and females is 101.7 new cases per 100,000 people.

    Breast cancer tops the list with 662 cases, followed by lung cancer (389 cases), cervical cancer (235 cases), and prostate cancer (124 cases).
