Princess Lalla Salma inaugurates breast, cervical cancer screening center

Rabat - Princess Lalla Salma, spouse of King Mohammed VI and Chairwoman of the "Lalla Salma Association Against Cancer" (ALSC) inaugurated, here Tuesday, the first screening center of breast and cervical cancer.


    Dubbed "Consultation, Diagnosis and Screening Center," the facility includes four units, namely specialized gynecological consultation unit, cervical cancer screening and diagnosis unit, breast cancer screening unit, and continuous training and awareness unit for medical and paramedical staff. 
  
    The center, which can provide up to 30,000 consultations per year, will host patients for specialized examinations in mammography, colposcopy and biopsy, as well as specialized gynecological consultations.

    Recent official figures estimate to some 30,500 new cancer cases every year in Morocco. Global cancer incidence rate among males and females is 101.7 new cases per 100,000 people.

    Breast cancer tops the list with 662 cases, followed by lung cancer (389 cases), cervical cancer (235 cases), and prostate cancer (124 cases).
