Polish virtuoso Basmadji wins International Princess Lalla Meryem Piano contest

Rabat - Polish musician Fares Marek Basmadji won, here Tuesday, the Virtuosity first prize in the 8th international princess Lalla Meryem piano contest, held on July 1-8.

    The second and third Virtuosity prizes went to Japanese Taki Shirakawa, while Bulgarian Irina Georgieva won the third prize.

    "This award is a real recognition of my work," Basmadji told MAP following his win.

    Some 143 pianists from 28 countries contesting in 40 prizes, participated in the contest, which has become a must have for children and young pianists aged between 5 and 35.

    Launched in 1994, princess Lalla Meryem piano contest is organized every two years.
