Launch of restructuring program of Oued Laou under-equipped neighborhoods
The launch was given Wednesday of a program to redevelop the under-equipped neighborhoods of the locality of Oued Laou (about 300 km north of Rabat).
The program, whose works were kicked off by king Mohammed VI, will require a budget of MAD 50mln, about $ 6.5mln.
It aims at overcoming a number of constraints related mainly to the poor basic equipment, and guaranteeing a better use of the potentials of the municipality especially in terms of tourism, fisheries and agriculture.
Works include redeveloping the neighborhoods of "Haoutat Al-Bahr", "Timindlas Msala", "Al Markaz", "Chouabel", "Dahr naher Soualeh", "Izbaren", and "Irkaden".
The main public square is also due to be developed, and a public services complex will be erected.
The program will be achieved in two phases (2008-2010 and 2009-2011), the first being turned towards restructuring under-equipped neighborhoods for around $ 2.6mln in an area of 20ha, while the second concerns the rest of the under-equipped neighborhoods.
Most of the 12,000 inhabitants of Ouad Laou, a municipality with outstanding natural potentials, work in agriculture and traditional fisheries.
