The " Knights of Change " movement in Mauritania, which carried out the failed coupe in June 2003 against President Weld al-Taye, denied in a statement connection to the killing incident of 15 Mauritanian soldiers and offered condolences to the Mauritanian people and army.

However, it held Weld al-Taye the responsibility saying "it is only the tyrant who is responsible for what had taken place." The movement added in its statement that the President is the responsible side for exposing the best in the armed forces to killing in an isolated and dangerous place by not giving them enough means to defend themselves.

The movement called on the army and the people "to work for rescuing Mauritania," noting its cling to the option of open clash with the ruling system of Weld al-Taye.
