"The Libyan people commemorate Thursday, 14 of April, the anniversary of their brave stand in the face of the failed American - NATO aggression on the Jamahiriya in 1986, as they pray for mercy for the innocent children, women, and elderly, whose bodies were torn apart by bombs of that aggression, in their sleep, when Reagan and Thatcher executed that perfidious aggression on the two cities of Tripoli and Benghazi, in complete darkness without any conscious or moral deterrence," JANA reported yesterday.
At the time, the US had accused Libya of being behind a terrorist act against a night club in Germany that is visited by US soldiers. Also, previously and unrelated to this incident, reports indicated to British secret efforts to kill the Libyan leader, Muammar al-Qathafi.
Qathafi's adopted daughter was killed by the US attack in 1986.
The official Libyan news agency added "The aggression targeted the Leader of the Revolution and his family, who were rescued by God, while those who executed the aggression went into the garbage of history."
JANA added "As they commemorates this painful event, the Libyan people reaffirm their constant right to compensation for the aggression, from those who caused the annihilation of many children, women and elderly."
JANA added "The Libyan people also reaffirm their readiness to develop relations with the American people, on bases of equal footing, and away from the logic of force pursued by Reagan administration, which America realized today that it is to no avail as peoples reject policies of superiority, arrogance and dictations, and eager to live in freedom peace and safety."
