Haidars Hunger Strike, a manoeuvre to divert attention from real priorities set by UN, Embassy
"The hunger strike of Aminatou Haidar is a well planned show and a provocative manoeuvre waged by the enemies of Morocco with the aim of diverting attention from the real priorities set by the UN, mainly the preservation of the political momentum spurred by the Moroccan initiative to grant substantial autonomy to its southern provinces, and the support of the negotiation process to reach a final, realistic and consensual political solution," said the embassy in a letter to the UK parliament. "Haidar, who has always enjoyed legal benefits and rights emanating from her Moroccan citizenship, violated legal provisions in force regulating entry into Morocco," said the embassy. "She (Haidaer) decided, in a move that challenged Moroccan authorities and provoked the entire Moroccan Nations feelings, to voluntarily reject Moroccan nationality and to hand over her passport and national identity card," added the letter. "Haidar, contrary to allegations, was not arrested, abducted, nor ill treated at her arrival at the Airport of Laayoune", explained the embassy, which stressed that members of her family were present when she renounced her Moroccan nationality. The whole process was carried out in full compliance and respect of the law, said the letter, adding that Haidars provocative move, on the eve of the launch of a second round of informal meetings between the parties, under the auspices of the UN, is a clear indication that she is serving a hidden agenda set by her foreign sponsors. Her rejection of all proposals, made by Spain to diffuse the situation, reveals her real intentions, said the source, noting that Haidar, who is misusing human rights for political reasons, has never cared nor voiced her concern about the violations of human rights by the Polisario in the Tindouf camps. While Saharawis living in the southern provinces of Morocco enjoy full-fledged rights as Moroccan citizens and participate actively in the political, economic and social life through representative bodies, their co-citizens, held against their will in Tindouf, are deprived of freedom of movement, kept in dire conditions and are subjected to indoctrination, exploitation, slavery practice and subjected to the forced deportation of children, as reported by impartial NGOs, added the embassy. The Algerian authorities have never agreed to the calls by the UNHCR to allow a census to be conducted of the population living in those camps, scandalously exaggerated by the Polisario who have, for more than three decades, abused international humanitarian aid by embezzlement, as recorded by personal testimonies and reputed human rights organisations. Moroccos genuine commitment and sustained effort to uphold human rights principles and culture has been constantly hailed by the international community, including the European Commission, concluded the letter.
